At least one existing rule allows a minimum of 13 inches, but pro installers and others who know their way around kitchens argue that there should be 20 to 24 inches of clearance above the stove top.
What is the required clearance between the floor and stove?
Floor protection should extend a minimum of 12 inches from the sides of the stove and a minimum of 18 inches from the front. If you have a side-loading stove, the floor protection should extend 18 inches on that side. Those clearances should be enough to protect you from sparks and embers.

Should a stove be higher than the countertop? Virtually all stove manufacturers advise that the cooktop should be even, or flush, with the countertop surface.
What goes behind a slide-in range?

Why are slide-in ranges so expensive?
Slide-in ranges have the controls in front of the burners. This prevents food spills from dripping down the sides of the range. Slide-in ranges are more expensive than freestanding because of the custom, built-in look the design provides.
How well do ductless range hoods work?
Unvented range hoods do filter some grease and cooking odors from the air, but the general consensus is that they’re nowhere near as effective. Nor do they remove heat and humidity, so they won’t help keep your kitchen cool while you cook.
Do you need to vent a stove?
The truth is that you should consider a vent for your electric stove. Even if you cook one or two times a week, a vent hood can be beneficial for you. It will clean your indoor air and improve your indoor air quality. For electric stoves, we recommend a range hood of at least 600 CFM.
