What is 9th kyu in belt grading?
The first grading in karate is known as a Yellow Tip grading (or 9th Kyu). This is awarded to a student at their local dojo after six classes. Far more effective than the majority of aikido, but it does not change the fact that aikido techniques are difficult to apply to a strong, resisting person and even harder to apply to a skilled person.

Aikido is not effective in a street fight for self–defense, although it teaches defensive strategies such as joint-locks, throws, and strikes. The goal in Aikido is to defend yourself while trying to avoid hurting the attacker. There are many better combat sports and self–defense systems you can learn.
